Newmarket holidays have teamed up with The Royal British Legion’s specialist travel division, Remembrance Travel. to offer ‘Journeys of Remembrance’ throughout 2013. Aimed initially at veterans of past conflicts and their families, who are wanting to show respect to fallen heroes or meet with fellow veterans to recollect on past stories, Remembrance Travel offer a number of trips throughout Europe, Asia and North Africa to do just that.

Newmarket Holidays, part of the Newmarket Group, are one of the UK’s largest independently owned tour operators. The company look after the holidaying needs of tens of thousands of clients each year, to a wide range of destinations both within the United Kingdom and around the world. Established in 1983, Newmarket, which employs nearly 200 people at its Worcester Park headquarters, has built a reputation over the past 30 years for its high standard of operation, a commitment to customer care and tremendous value for money. The company provides a vast portfolio of holiday packages abroad, as well as providing trips throughout the UK to events such as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the opening of Buckingham Palace to the public and the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships.

The ‘Journeys of Remembrance’ offer army veterans and their families the option to explore, rediscover and to remember the bravery and sacrifice of our heroes in the Armed Forces at a selection of sites across the globe. Locations on offer include Burma, Egypt, Italy and Malta, with 2 of the most popular choices being Burma and the south of Italy excursions. The Burma trip is a 12 day tour through colonial Burma (now Myanmar) and is a must for anyone with an interest in this fascinating country and the 1942-45 Burma campaign. Visit Rangoon, with its cemeteries of those who died in Burma, and the vibrant former capital Mandalay. On this trip you will also discover the battle sites, including Ava Bridge, and the colonial hill station of Maymyo. The tour to southern Italy is an 8 day visit to one of the most beautiful countries in the world and honours those who died in the historic struggle for southern Italy. Join us to discover the battlefields at Monte Cassino, Anzio, Salerno and along the Winter Line, and to count the cost of war in the area’s beautifully maintained Second World War cemeteries.
